Signs of Spring...

"I looked out the window and what did I see?
Popcorn popping on the apricot tree!
Spring has brought me such a nice surprise,
Blossoms popping right before my eyes!

I could take an armful and make a treat,
A popcorn ball that would smell so sweat,
It wasn't really so,
But it seemed to be,
Popcorn popping on the apricot tree."

-Georgia W. Bello, 1957

I told Noah we should go outside and look at the "popcorn" on our apricot tree and he got really excited. He suggested we even turn on a movie to watch with our popcorn. I had to explain to him that it wasn't really popcorn, it just looked like it. A few days later, he asked again when the popcorn on the tree would be ready to eat.

This is a tiny little nest Zachary spotted in a tree in our front yard. It's so small, I can't imagine anything bigger than a hummingbird using it.
Every winter, the Lantana plants get hit by the cold and turn into a pile of broken sticks, but they usually come back every Spring and by midsummer they will take over the yard.

These are some Vincas I planted in a pot on my porch. I had some other flowers mixed in with them, but they died already, so I planted a few Vinca seeds in between and am waiting for them to come up.

A close up of the Dianthus I have growing in another pot. I love the tropical look of these flower, it's such a contrast to the rest of the desert landscaping we have.

I am so jealous of your nice weather, and blooming flowers. I can't believe that you guys have popcorn already. Lucky!

I guess I will need to do a better job of explaining what the song "Popcorn Popping" really means to all the primary children. Those were beautiful pictures. I'm so excited it is spring!
