BIG NEWS...

At least for our family, it's BIG NEWS. Here's a hint:

Yeah, I know, can you believe it?

Nate and I have talked about having a dog pretty much our entire marriage, but the timing was never quite right. Either we were living in apartments, or moving around a lot, or the kids were too little, or we had too much other stuff going on...

We had pretty much decided that when we did get a dog, it was going to be a rescued dog because there are so many animals out there needing a home already. And as cute as puppies are, we really didn't want to deal with house training and all that chewing. So, we looked online and found the Arizona Labrador and Giants Breeds Rescue.

And that's where we found Thelma:

In fact, her 'adoption' page link is still up for the time being. Thelma is about a year and a half old, so she's still got a little puppy in her, but she's pretty much housebroken, although my Bissell DID get a workout those first few days she was at our house.

She's super loving and patient, and doesn't mind being mauled by the kids. She has a tendency to wander into rooms in search of random toys and stuffed animals to play with, so we're still getting used to keeping the doors shut and putting our things away, me included. (She munched on one of my high heels after church today, darn it!)

When we first started talking about the fact that we might adopt a dog, Noah started including the request in his prayers every night that 'we'd find a dog that loves kids'. We think his prayer was answered.

We're considering changing her name, but the kids are pretty resistant. And it's hilarious to hear Noah call her "Felma" to get her to come. Zachary has probably watched one too many Scooby Doo episodes because he occasionally calls her "Velma", then catches himself, and asks what her name is again with a confused look on his face.

So, any suggestions for a new name?

FINALLY a friend for Jasmine and you have to live all the way in AZ!! Thelma is adorable!! Very smart going for the yellow in the extreme heat of Arizona, a brown or black dog would have fried! Congrats on the new addition to your family, she'll be a lot of work, but then you'll be having "one of those days" and she'll come over to you and that look in her eye will make everything worth it. I'd try to help with a name, but it took us almost a week to name Jasmine, and I can't come up with a name for our baby, and we are almost down to the last month, so I'm afraid you're on your own there.

You have to keep her name, I think it fits her really well. Glad that you finally decided to get a pet. I'm sure the boys will take her on a walk each night and clean up after her, right? Ha, ha, ha. Hope you enjoy your new family member. Who does she sleep with?

shes adorable!! i wouldn't change her name. i think it's original (for a dog) and you don't want to confuse the poor thing.

has this filled noah's baby hunger at all?

We are so happy for you. She is very cute! I loved the picture of her on the adoption site with her eyes closed. Grant kept kissing her picture on the computer screen. My vote is to keep her name Thelma. I am glad we kept Tommy's name after adopting him. We look forward to reading more updates about her. Love, the Moss family

Nothing sweeter than seeing a child with their dog. ;o)
